Here is an interesting behind the scenes look at Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Here we see how Tweedledee and Tweedledum are filmed and ultimately put into the scenes of the movie.
Matt Lucas (left) who plays both Tweedledee and Tweedledum is first photographed in front of a green screen wearing the Tweedledum suit along side his double
Matt Lucas and his double switch spots and re-film the exact same scene all over again.
A reference shot that incorporates both of Lucas’ performances is handed over to layout and animation, where body performances (matching Lucas’ on set performances) are created.
Layout of the Underland garden is combined with the character animation for the Tweedles, the White Rabbit and the Dodo, with photography of Lucas’ facial performances floating above the Tweedles to serve as a reference for animation matching.
Feathers and hair of the furred characters, along with movement of clothing and jiggling of facial and belly fat are all incorporated at this stage.
Here is the final outcome with of all elements combined.
