Here is a collection of 3D images that you can see with the naked eye. I'm sure if you were born within the last 20 or so years or if you watched Seinfeld you remember the Magic Eye craze of the 90's. Well these use the same concept, only you get to view nebula, and galaxies in 3D which is pretty amazing. I know a lot of people have trouble viewing these so let me give you a few pointers. The easiest way for beginners is to pretend to stare at the wall behind your monitor instead of the actual p...
  • 3D Images without glasses – Wiggle Stereoscopy

This isn't real new technology nor is it revolutionary or anything. But it is something that is pretty neat to see in action. It's called wiggle stereoscopy and the way it works is by taking two pictures from the same location about four inches apart, which mimics the positioning of the human eyes. Then upload the images to your computer and animate the two images together into a .gif. A good place to do that online is Gifninja or you can do it in photoshop or the like if you have the skills to ...

NASA Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity used its navigation camera to take the images combined into this stereo, full-circle view of the rover's surroundings on the 1,506th through 1,510th Martian days, or sols, of Opportunity's mission on Mars (April 19-23, 2008). South is at the center; north is at both ends. This view combines images from the left-eye and right-eye sides of the navigation camera. It appears three-dimensional when viewed through red-blue glasses with the red lens on the lef...

[ad#Google Adsense] In recent weeks, as NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit has driven through the basin south of "Husband Hill," it has been traversing mainly sand and dune deposits. This week, though, Spirit has been maneuvering along the edge of an arc-shaped feature called "Lorre Ridge" and has encountered some spectacular examples of basaltic rocks with striking textures. This panoramic camera (Pancam) image shows a group of boulders informally named "FuYi." These basaltic rocks were form...

Now for a new feature on my site! I will be posting images taken from the mars rover in 3D so dust off your old red and cyan glasses and take a look at the first image below. For maximum viewing pleasure click on the image to show it full size! This image combines exposures from the left eye and right eye of the rover's panoramic camera to provide a three-dimensional view when seen through red-green glasses with the red lens on the left. The camera took the component images during the 1,961st...
  • The Difference in 3D Technology. Day 1 – Anaglyph
    by Cameron
    Posted November 9th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
I have been asked recently just what exactly the difference is in 3D glasses and just all the 3D technology in general. So I'm hoping this will help everyone understand what these technologies are and what they do different from one another. So over this week each day I will be showcasing a 3D technology and explaining a bit about it. First the oldies, Anaglyph 3D glasses. These are the glasses that have been around since before I was born. They use a red and cyan filter over the original ima...
